About us

The Bristol Branch of the Historical Association began in 1907. Unfortunately it became dormant in 2007. Mary Feerick and Rob Pritchard retired from four decades of teaching and relaunched the Bristol Historical Association in 2017.

We have been very lucky to have the support of the University of Bristol Department of History who provide a lecture room for our monthly events. We have also had the support of teachers from across the city.

Mary’s experience of running conferences for sixth formers means that we can reach out to school students as well as adults.

Our programme of talks and walks is extremely varied. Some of our events are deliberately aimed at school students. We have tried to include topics that represent all types of history and take into account the latest research and controversies.

Our wide range of events can be seen on the ‘Previously on the Bristol HA’ page
